It has been quite a while since I have posted on my blog - something I plan on changing, as I wish to write more as I originally planned. When I first started the blog back in August, I was still on nights. Since then I have moved to working during the day, got a promotion, and have gone back to school, so it's been a whirlwind! And unfortunately, while adjusting to my new schedule I've had to put this blog on the back burner, but I plan on picking it back up again as it's been a great way to connect with so many people!
Of course, within this whirlwind has been the never ending whirlwind that is Crohn's Disease.
My GI doctor has not been satisfied with the amount of improvements I've had on my medications. For a year I was on Remicade and Imuran, two very large drugs for Crohn's treatment; two very potent drugs. So the fact that my remission appeared to have leveled off was concerning. He decided to send me to a specialist in the city at a Crohn's and Colitis Center. I saw my new doctor last week, and of course, what did he order? Colonoscopy. He allowed me to officially not take the Imuran (I haven't been on it for 2 months anyway due to nausea side effects) and he placed me on two antibiotics: Cipro and Flagyl.
I had the colonoscopy procedure yesterday, after a day and a half of chicken broth and jello, mixed with a gallon of disgusting prep. Blech! I was told I have a lot of inflammation in my sigmoid colon - biopsies were taken. Next up is a MR enterography (MRI of my small intestines) in a couple of weeks, and a couple days after that I'll have my follow up with my doctor on our plan of action.
In other news - I'm planning a vacation! I have not vacationed anywhere since my trip to Italy two years ago where I developed my crohn's symptoms, so naturally I'm a bit nervous, but also very excited!
So many things to write about. I hope you keep reading!
